On this very day of September 25th, in the year of 1888, the amazing poet and writer, T.S. Eliot was born in St. Louis, Missouri. Ten years later, to the day, the very gifted composer George Gershwin was born in Brooklyn, New York. What a day! Oh, what a day it was.
T.S. Eliot (1888–1965). Prufrock and Other Observations. 1917. 1. The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock:
For I have known them all already, known them all:
Have known the evenings, mornings, afternoons,
I have measured out my life with coffee spoons;
I know the voices dying with a dying fall
Beneath the music from a farther room.
So how should I presume?
George Gerswhin (1898–1937) Our Love is Here to Stay.
It’s very clear
Our love is here to stay ;
Not for a year
But ever and a day.
(I probably shouldn’t mention that Olivia Newton John also has a birthday today. It kind blows the whole romanticism of this thing….unless, of course, you are a big Grease fan. I like grease, but only on my french fries….. and my car engine.
……we go together like, rama lama lama, ke ding a de dinga a dong, remembered for ever like, shoo bop shoo wadda wadda yipitty boom de boom……)
