Our Sorry World

Every time I write this thing.
Every time.
I go through a stage of “worry.” It could be generated from any number of sources. This worry. Some are small, some are large.
“Will anyone catch that line?”
“I wonder if they’ll hear this pun?”
Or my very biggest worry:
“I hope this doesn’t offend anyone.”

So whenever I consider writing a piece about our current world situation, or our horrendous political debacle, or religion, or the Bible, I go through a serious state of uncertainty, hesitation, and vacillation. Not about my feelings on the topic. But whether or not to publish it.

Ninety-five percent of the time, I write three or four different versions, before trashing them all. And then I post a column about Sta-Puff Marshmallows, and the plight of the S’more.

You see, writing about controversial topics has cost me. Real people in this world have ended friendships with me. I’ve lost a couple of things that have been very important to me. So why do it?

Because some days I can’t live the fact that by doing “nothing” I am perpetuating the wrongdoing.

And, after rereading my original writings tonight, I am pulling it again.

My words were filled with sorrow, with blame, with angst and indignation.

But I will say this.

The supremacy-mentality has to stop.
On all levels.

Be it supremacy about religion, or politics, or car repair. There is no one right way. Quit professing it. Stop condemning others who do not do, as you do.

We need to realize that all humans are equals, and we are all on our own paths. Accept and embrace each other because of this.

Because we are uniquely the same.
