With the odds the way they are, it is possible that no one will win. Again, and again, and again. And again.
Here we are though, in the midst of the Lottery frenzy. The one game, which is called MegaMillions, is worth a lot of money right now. I read yesterday, that it is now a record-breaking $1.6 billion. That makes it the biggest lottery prize in U.S. history. Billion Dollars Big. Daddy Warbucks Big.
More people buy tickets when the jackpot gets enormous. They go out in droves and buy these tickets. I am not sure why this is. The regular jackpot, every week, starts at $40 million. Do most people think this would be a pittance? Not enough to bother? Forty million could go a long way, I’ll bet ya’. But the un-regulars don’t play when it is 40 Million.
Regardless of all of that, it is hard to win. I’m sure you know all this, but I will say it again. There are 302 million possible combinations. Astronomical odds. So let’s face it. Why play? Or maybe — Why not? You have the same 1 in 302.6 million chance of winning the jackpot as anybody else.
And what’s two bucks?
I’d be remiss if I did not mention the other big game. The PowerBall Game. There is big money there too. The prize is $620 million on that shelf.
And what’s two more bucks?
I used to play the Lotto frequently. This was about 30 years ago, or so. It was called the Super Lotto, and it was here in Ohio. It might still exist, I don’t know. But I played every week. I lost every week too. I think the most I ever hit was three numbers. NOTE See the section above concerning astronomical odds.
At any rate, I quit playing. About 29 years ago. It got old. Losing like that.
I used to play Euchre too. Back in college. Apparently, I was not the best Euchre player. It seems that I was always on the losing team. I quit that game too. Sometimes, people try to talk me into playing again. I normally decline. Something about “Making the Trump” seems scarier to me than ever before.
Yeah, so I quit.
It is not that I don’t like to lose.
Well. Wait. Truthfully?
I don’t like to lose.
Which brings me back to the MegaMillions deal.
As I mentioned. It is possible no one will win this thing again. And again.
And again.
So…… ..
Good luck everybody.
