Not board.
Not bored either. In fact, I am never bored. It is a word I do not know or comprehend.
There is always something to do, or to be done in my life.
To be bored, is this, according to Uncle Noah…. ..
“Feeling weary because one is unoccupied or lacks interest in one’s current activity.”
For me, it is not difficult to find an “occupied”…. or to find interest in a completely different activity. Granted, I do not have to work on an assembly line, putting wing nuts on hex bolts. Or something.
When I was pretty young, one of my sisters traipsed through the kitchen on a Saturday morning, and proclaimed that she was “bored out of her mind.” My Dad, who rarely sat down except for meals… proclaimed right back. He said he could find plenty for us to do.
Two things happened here. One was “guilt by association.” I was not bored. Not in the least bit. I was probably just standing by my Dad’s side, watching him clean some gadget with a toothbrush. Or something. But because I was there in the vicinity, with two of my sisters…. and namely the one who pronounced “boredom” in her life…. I fell into the ranks.
The next thing that happened was consequence. Consequence for being bored. And that was work. Before I knew it, we were cleaning bathrooms. There aren’t many things I do not like cleaning… but tubs and showers are one of them. I was not bored as I scrubbed away, up to my elbows in Comet Cleanser. But I was ticked.
From that point on, I have had an aversion to boredom. And of course, an avoidance of the innocent-bystander-syndrome.
However, I sometimes possess a uncanny knack, for boring the heck out of others. Which I suspect is happening right now.
As a result…. I am vowing to quit boring people. From this point forward.
