Little did he know…

Oh. You know the Woo.

The Woo Woo.  That which is “out there.”   Depending on the person, and the perspective, there are several levels of “Woo.”  And people speak of the Woo, in hushed voices, in dark corners, while sipping cups of Gossip-Coffee.

“Carol believes in Psychics.  She goes and gets readings from them all the time. You know…. Woo Woo.”

OR

“Kyle reeeallly thinks there is life in outer space.  Like UFOs and little green men. Wooooo.”

The Woo.

For me personally, I simply say this.  I cannot discount any of it.  This is an enormous expanse of a Universe.  It is incomprehensible, as it is expanding with every light year, ahead of that which we can probe.  That is a LOT of space, and a LOT of time.

So I think there are possibilities beyond our wildest imaginations.  And.  That is in the time continuum which we mostly understand.  But what happens once life as we know it “ends.”  Do we transcend?  Do we cease?   No one knows for certain.  Many have “faith” in an afterlife.  A promise of something to come.  But we cannot prove or disprove it, either way.

Psychics, for example.  A lot of people think they are selling Snake Oil.  But I wonder about all those murder cases in which Law Enforcement paired with Psychics to find the missing person… for instance.

Or Angels.  Religions as old as time have heralded the Angels.  People have given personal accounts of Angel experiences.  But the majority of the population would say they are just a product of good fiction writing.

Leprechauns, Unicorns,  Dragons, Mermaids?  Well, personally, I am not sure.  I am guessing someone would have Snapchatted or Instagrammed them by now. But maybe they are so stealthy, they can’t be photographed or recorded.  Who can say beyond a doubt.

I only bring this up because of the major news headline today, which did not involve the controversy of Donald Trump.

Yes, in the news….  Astronomers from NASA and the European Southern Observatory gave the big Word OUT.  Those Geeks for Space announced four new Earth-sized exoplanets.

Earth-sized planets… they said.   These big balls have been discovered orbiting a star about 40 light-years away, and that three may contain liquid water and be able to sustain life.

Key phrase.  Able to sustain life.  (Life as WE know it… so yeah. Life.)

We have the Sun.  This star….   and I’m calling it Jeffrey, from now own….  boasts a small grouping of planets.  AND… it has the most Earth-sized worlds of any system astronomers have discovered, and the most exoplanets that may be able to support surface life and water.   Holy Smack-a-rolly.

So here is my point. We didn’t know this a few days ago.

Now, we know this.

A few days ago?  Woo.

Today?  Proven scientific fact.

Socrates said it best…..  “You don’t know Jack.”  Or something along those lines.

But it is true.  There is so much out there to be considered.  We don’t know much of anything for absolutely sure.  And if we ever stop considering the possibilities… of that which might be?  We’ve given up on growing.

I, for one, am on the highest lookout for all that goes Woo.
