Transform us…. please.

Well, well, well.  A big storm crashed through today.  Big.

We must have had some powerful straight line winds move past us.  Enough to pick up a large glass-top outdoor table, and heave it about 12 feet from where it stood.  Glass doesn’t do so well under those  conditions.  We lost a few other things.  Pots, and tables, and such.  Big tree limbs.  You know the drill.

But.  Mainly, we lost our electric.  It has been almost 8 hours now. I’m getting testy.

We had friends coming over for dinner and swimming.  We pressed on.  I pulled out the Stihl Super Hero Power Blower.  And.   Mary pulled out a couple of electric skillets, and fired up the grill.  The walks and pool house were clean as a whistle.  Not a leaf in sight.  And the meal… It was a magical meal. So very delicious.

It seems we have lost our power more than a few times this summer.  And it also seems like we are the last ones to get the switch turned back on.  Thank goodness, for our generator.  I just have to get creative with extension cords for the essentials.

But boy do we miss things when they are gone.

Most things.

Electric.  Yes.  I mean, when your electric exits the building, you have some other versions of life to pull out of your bag of tricks.  This is not necessarily a bad thing.

Our health.  We sure do notice this when it takes a vacation.  From major illnesses, to the very small insignificant things… like a cut on your index finger.  If things aren’t working as they normally should, out little lives are truly disrupted.

And there are a whole lot more things that we miss when they are gone.  Some more significant than others.

Like. When people exit, that can be very hard too.  I’ve seen a few people move to another place from this life.  I missed them so much when they left.  I still miss them.

You know…. It would be nice, if we could pick up the phone, and report the outage… just like we do with the electric company.

And then, after a bit of an uncomfortable wait, a team of guys come out, in a tan truck, with those funny yellow hats on… and restore our person.

All they had to do was make the transformer work again.  And there they are.  Our Dads, or Moms, siblings, or children,  family friends, or pets.

But. That’s not how it works.  And sometimes, I miss my Dad so deeply.  I want to report the outage.

Everything is relative.  Time.  Our lives.  Our health.  And in comparison, a few hours without electric seems pretty insignificant.

I’ve got a lot to be thankful for. A lot.   And remembering this fact is something I should never lose.  For there is always…. ALWAYS…. something to be thankful for.

5 a.m. UPDATE.  Still no electric.  Okay… I still have a lot to be thankful for.
