Who are you, and how do you do?

Our jobs are not who we are. Neither are our cars, our houses, our vacations. Our looks our not who we are, not even our bodies.

Who we are is in the vastness of our being. That thing we really can’t touch with our hands or see with our eyes. It is the spirit. That is who we are.

Our moments of divinity.

I just read a little account of someone who almost died. They saw things during the process of near death. This reminded me, once again. We are simply on a journey. It is all temporary, this life. It came, at some point. And all the things as we know them, will go.

I like to be home. But this place isn’t it. We are travelers.

We are thinking, feeling creatures though. And this part of being here gives us certain powers in our every day. Our thoughts hold that power. They travel, and they have the ability to move at great speeds, and to land with substantial impact.

We can mostly pick the ones we think. Thoughts of peace. Thoughts of goodness. And these “energies” move through us, out of us, and on to touch any person or place.

It can be hard though. Who among us doesn’t have some degree of darkness in our little human minds? Any day. Every day. So it goes to figure that there is a capacity for darkness in most scenes and situations. If not, how do we explain why there can be so much unhappiness, pain, sorrow in the world?

Think how valuable we can be, if we are the person who can bring light and goodness to any place or any given moment. That space where others might bring their darkness? We can choose our reactions. Good or bad. Light or dark. Easy or hard.

We can act in any priceless way. It might just be a little smile of comfort. Or encouragement. Maybe we show someone an attitude of genuine interest. Or try to use a word or two to soften a difficult moment.

How do we go then? Are we capable of being light in spirit? Even when other people around us may not? Our way is our way. In any moment today. Any day. When we can illuminate.

And then. That is who we are.
